Last year I decided the highest and best use for a box of brownie mix was cookies.
I fell in love with these fudgy chocolate cookies made with a box of brownie mix.
And these brownie cookies with M&M's!
And whence the Christmas holidays came, peppermint brownie cookies.
But then I remembered a recipe for making peanut butter chunks to swirl into cookie dough.
And thought that would be great to dress up a box of brownie mix. And it was. And here's is how to make it.
Even better, these peanut butter swirl brownies may be eaten guilt free because the protein in the peanut butter cancels out the fat and calories from the brownie itself.
The more you eat the better.

How to Make Peanut Butter Brownies
You're basically making a box of brownie mix, following the instruction on the back of the box.
I like to make boxed brownies in an 8x8 pan so they are thicker.
But you can also use a 13x9 cake pan for this recipe, just know that you'll have thinner, skinny Minnie brownie slices.
After mixing up the brownie batter, you'll blend together smooth peanut butter and powdered sugar then warm it up just slightly in the microwave.

Remove brownies from the oven before they're done baking, poke holes and pour a teaspoon or two of the peanut butter/powdered sugar mixture into the holes in the brownies as best you can.

Some of the mixture will ooze down into the brownie layer but much of the peanut butter will just pool delightfully on top of the brownie.
As the brownies cool, the peanut butter mixture will set.

Notes
My favorite digital cooking thermometer.
Don't overmix the bornwie batter. A few lumps are fine.
This reipe is best made with creamy peanut butter.
I put peanut butter in nine holes in the brownies but you could do more or less.
For thicker brownies, use a 8x8 pan.
For thinner brownies, use a 13x9 cake pan.
