Gumdrop Nougat Candy Ingredients
- 10 ounces Dots candy
- 1 (10-ounce) bag mini marshmallows
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 ¾ cups white chocolate chips
- Non-stick cooking spray

Equipment
- 8x8 pan
- sturdy mixing bowl and spatula
- parchment paper or wax paper
- non-stick cooking spray
- sharp knife or pizza cutter or bench scraper (to slice candy)
- candy wrappers or miniature cups
- Microwave or double boiler
Candy Making Steps

- Melt white chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl or on the range in a double boiler.

- White chocolate burns easily so be sure to stir it thoroughly every 30 seconds or so, scraping the bottom of the bowl and the sides to eliminate any hot spots.

- Melt marshmallows and butter.

- Add melted marshmallow mixture to melted white chocolate.

Recipe Tips
This candy sets up fast, so have your pan lined and your gumdrops ready before you start.
Once the marshmallow and white chocolate are combined, you’ll need to stir quickly and get it into the pan before it thickens.
Speed is your friend with this recipe. The key to making this candy is to work quickly.
You can use fruit slices if you can't find Dots. Chop those in half and toss with a bit of sugar so the cut sides don't stick together.
Use either a sharp knife or a pizza cutter or a bench scraper to slice this candy.

Pro Tip
Use good-quality white chocolate (Ghirardelli or Guittard) not “white baking chips.” Those cheap ones can seize or turn grainy when melted. White chocolate burns fast, so melt in 30-second bursts, stirring each time until smooth.

Nougat Candy Variations
For a less sweet version, replace the Dots candy with dried fruits such as dried cherries and apricots.
Or use pastel Dots for an Easter version.
Or try that classic Christmas pairing of dried cranberries and chopped pistachios--similar to these holiday no bake bars.
Or for a spicy flavor, use Hot Tamales in place of the Dots!
Storage & Gifting
Once set, store your nougat in an airtight container with layers separated by parchment or wax paper.
- Room temperature: Up to 1 week.
- Refrigerator: Up to 3 weeks.
- Freezer: Up to 3 months (wrap tightly in plastic + freezer-safe container). Thaw at room temp for about 30 minutes before serving.
For gifting, wrap squares individually in clear cellophane or layer them in small holiday tins or parchment-lined boxes.
Tie with baker’s twine and add a gift tag.

Recipe
Gumdrop Nougat Candy
Gumdrop Nougat candy is old fashioned and will make you the holiday hero. You'll love this easy, colorful, microwave holiday candy recipe. No candy thermometer needed.
Ingredients
- 1 (10-ounce) bag mini marshmallows
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 ¾ cups white chocolate chips
- 10 ounces Dots candy (divided, reserve ⅓ cup for toppping)
Instructions
Line an 8x8 pan with parchment paper and set aside.
Add white chocolate chips to a small, microwave-safe bowl.
Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring well after each, until smooth (about 2 to 2½ minutes total).
Once the chocolate is smooth and creamy, set aside.
Working quickly, add marshmallows and butter to a medium microwave-safe mixing bowl.
Microwave on high for 2 minutes or until the marshmallows have puffed up.
Remove from the microwave and stir until the butter has fully melted and the marshmallows are smooth.
Add white chocolate to the marshmallow mixture and stir quickly until fully combined and smooth.
Add all but ⅓ cup of the Dots candy to the bowl and stir to evenly distribute it throughout the mixture. If your Dots are large, cut them in half for easier slicing later.
Immediately pour candy into the prepared pan.
Lightly spray your hands with cooking spray and gently press the mixture evenly into the pan
Press remaining Dots candy into the top of the nougat, filling in any spots that need more color.
Let rest for 4 hours, covered, on the counter, or until fully set.
If it’s still tacky after four hours, refrigerate for an hour.
Once set, cut into small squares and enjoy.
For cleaner slices, lightly spray your knife or bench scraper with cooking spray.
Notes
If the candy is still tacky after four hours, put it in the fridge to finish setting up.
If your chocolate is too thick by the time the marshmallows have melted, you can return it to the microwave for 30 seconds before adding it to the marshmallow mix.
Store at room temp: up to 1 week
Fridge: up to 2–3 weeks
You can store this candy in the fridge, in a covered container, for two to three weeks or freeze.
If making for Christmas, look for packages of red and green Dots.
