Why Jello Shots Are Fun (as if you needed reminding)
- They’re easy to make in batches and always a crowd favorite.
- Make jello shots up to three days before so you can focus on having fun.
- Customize for the holiday or celebration. Swap Jello and vodka varieties to match your theme or season.
Ingredients
- 1 3-ounce box Strawberry Jello
- 1 cup Boiling Water
- Whipped Topping (optional garnish)
- Fresh Strawberries, halved (optional garnish)
See recipe card for ingredient amounts.

How to Make Strawberry Jello Shots
- Line the shot cups on a flat, moveable surface such as a large plate or baking sheet.
- Add the jello and boiling water to a medium mixing bowl and stir until the gelatin has dissolved.
- Add the vodka and stir.
- Fill the shot cups with the strawberry jello mixture, leaving a bit of room at the top of each cup.
- Chill for 2 hours or until set.
- Garnish with a dollop of whipped topping and a halved strawberry, if desired, and enjoy!

Recipe Notes
- Don’t overfill – Leave a little space in each cup so you can garnish without a whipped cream avalanche.
- For stronger shots – Swap up to ½ cup of the cold water for more vodka or another spirit. Just know they’ll take a bit longer to set.
- For lighter shots – Use flavored water or lemon-lime soda in place of some of the vodka.
- Safe transport – Keep them in a shallow baking dish or sturdy box with sides so they don’t tip. A muffin tin works in a pinch. Or put them in a slow cooker and put the lid on.
- Make ahead – These can be made up to 3 days in advance. Keep them covered in the fridge to prevent them from drying out.
- Garnish just before serving – Whipped topping and strawberries look best when added right before the party starts.
Jello Shot Swaps
Strawberry Margarita Shots – Use tequila + triple sec instead of vodka, rim cups with sugar or salt.
Strawberry Lemonade Shots – Use lemon vodka + lemonade instead of water.
Strawberry Coconut Cream – Use coconut rum instead of vodka, garnish cups with shredded coconut.
Berry Blast – Mix strawberry Jello with blueberry vodka.
Strawberry Shortcake – Use cake-flavored vodka or whipped cream vodka, top with whipped cream and crushed vanilla wafers.
Jello Shot Garnish Ideas
- Sugared strawberry slices for sparkle
- Gummy candies (rings, bears, hearts for themed parties)
- Sprinkle edible glitter over whipped cream
- Mini paper umbrellas or party picks for tropical vibes
- Whipped cream + chocolate shavings for a dessert twist
- Rim cups with colored sugar before filling for extra color pop

Strawberry Jello Shots
Make sweet and boozy Strawberry Jello Shots with vodka in minutes! Fruity, fun, and perfect for parties. Garnish with whipped cream and berries.
Ingredients
- 1 Box Strawberry Jello (3 ounces)
- 1 Cup Boiling Water
- ⅔ Cup Red Berry Vodka
- Whipped Topping (optional garnish)
- Fresh Strawberries, halved (optional garnish)
Instructions
- Line the shot cups on a flat, moveable surface such as a large plate or baking sheet.
- Add the jello and boiling water to a medium mixing bowl and stir until the gelatin has dissolved.
- Add the vodka and stir.
- Fill the shot cups with the strawberry jello mixture, leaving a bit of room at the top of each cup.
- Chill for 2 hours or until set.
- Garnish with a dollop of whipped topping and a halved strawberry, if desired, and enjoy!
Notes
- Store, covered, in the fridge, for up to 4 days (putting the lids on the cups works just fine). Do not garnish the shots if you’re not serving shortly. Only garnish when you’re ready to serve. I do not suggest freezing.
- You can use any alcohol you prefer. Just be sure to not change the suggested amounts as some alcohol can cause the shots to not set up.
- I used an Ateco #824 frosting tip and frosting bag to add the whipped cream. It’s not necessary, just makes the whipped topping prettier.
