How to Make Easter Nests
These marshmallow treat nests are perfect for Easter whether you're going to do a fancy Robin's Egg Blue tablescape or just business as usual with your Corelle dishes or Fiestaware.
Shredded wheat nests are made just the way you'd make Rice Krispie Treats.
- Melt butter in a large pot.
- Add a bag of marshmallows and stir until they are melted them. Add in the shredded wheat and stir until coated.
- Form round little nests using a large cookie scoop or a spoon.
- Make an indentation in the middle of each nest using your thumb or the back of a teaspoon or a wine cork.
- Drop a few jelly beans or chocolate eggs into the cavity of each nest.

Step by Step: Shredded Wheat Nests
Recipe Tips:
If you don't like to get your hands sticky, spray them with non-stick spray or rub a bit of butter between your palms before forming the nests.
Use a cookie scoop or a spoon to form the nests.
Make a cavity for your Easter eggs, maybe Cadbury Easter eggs? with a teaspoon or your thumb or knuckle.
Have parchment or wax paper lined cookie sheet or tray ready to put your nests on as you make them.
Let the nests sit until they are mostly dry. They will still be a bit sticky because they're held together with melted marshmallows and butter.
Storing and Making Ahead
Store shredded wheat nests an airtight container for up to three days.
Do not put in fridge or freeze, the nests will get soggy.
These nests are best made the day you plan to consume them or one day ahead.Β

Shredded Wheat Easter Nests
Top your nests with whatever Easter candy you'd like: jelly beans or malted milk Easter Eggs or peanut M&M's in pastel.Easter hues.
Ingredients
- 4 cups shredded wheat cereal broken into rough pieces (approximately six large shredded wheat cereal pieces or four cups of miniature shredded wheat.
- ΒΌ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 10-ounce bag of miniature marshmallows
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Β½ teaspoon sea salt or kosher salt
- small candies such as jelly beans, chocolate eggs or malted milk ball eggs for filling the nests
Instructions
Measure four cups of shredded wheat cereal and break into pieces. (If using large shredded wheat pieces you’ll need about four. If using minis, just measure them by the cup.) Set aside.
Melt a quarter cup of butter in a dutch oven or large saucepan over low heat.
Add marshmallows and stir with a rubber spatula to coat with the melted butter.
Continue cooking over low heat being careful to scrape the bottom of your pot with a spatula to keep the marshmallows from burning and sticking to the bottom of the pot.
Remove from heat once marshmallows are almost completely melted.
Quickly add the shredded wheat, which you've already broken into clumps. Stir until well combined.
Use a cookie scoop to form your nests.
Form all the nests and indentations before filling with candy. The nest mixture will get harder to work with the cooler it gets.
If it gets too cool, return the pot to low heat for a minute or two to warm back up until it’s easier to work with again.
Put the nests on parchment paper or wax paper lined cookie sheet or 13x9 pan.
Add the candy to each cavity.
Let the nests dry out a bit for an hour to lose some of the stickiness.
Store in an airtight container for up to three days.
Do not put in fridge or freeze, the nests will get soggy.
These nests are best made at the last minute.
