They’re called s’mores—a classic dessert sandwich made by roasting marshmallows and pressing them between chocolate and graham crackers. You can make them over a campfire, in the oven, or even the microwave.
Now let’s walk through how to actually build one.

- Place half a chocolate bar on one graham square.
- Toast a marshmallow until golden brown (or charred, no judgment).
- Put the toasted marshmallow on top of the chocolate and top with the other graham square.
- Devour.
Upgrade Your S'mores with Luxe Twists
Once you’ve mastered the basics, there are lots of easy ways to switch things up, whether you’re making s’mores indoors, feeding a crowd, or just using what you’ve got on hand.
Best Chocolate for S’mores
- Hershey’s bars: classic & thin
- Reese’s Thins: sweet/salty vibe
- Dark chocolate: grown-up version
- Candy bars: Snickers
Also, graham crackers are totally optional. See my most recent popular post about 50 ways to make S'mores without Graham Crackers.
This is handy in case you run out of graham crackers.
My favorite way method is to sandwich the chocolate and marshmallow between two chocolate chip cookies. Or two halves of an Oreo or a peanut butter cookie.
Or you can sandwich two Ritz crackers into a S'more Cracker Cookie.

How to Make S'mores
This gooey, melty, finger-licking treat is a classic for a reason—just three ingredients and a campfire (or toaster oven) stand between you and the best dessert sandwich ever invented.
Ingredients
- 8 graham cracker sheets
- 4 Hershey chocolate bars (you’ll break each bar in half)
- 8 Roasted marshmallows
- Campfire
- Sticks for roasting marshmallows
- A cookie sheet or tray or cooler lid for holding graham crackers and chocolate while you’re toasting marshmallows.
- Unwrap a package of graham crackers.
Instructions
Build a campfire.
Unwrap a package of graham crackers.
Open four chocolate bars
Roast marshmallows by pushing one on the end of a stick and holding over the campfire until it heats to your preference.
Don’t hold the marshmallow too close to the fire or the marshmallow will catch fire.
Don’t worry if this happens just wave it around or blow on the marshmallow.
Once the marshmallow has melted enough to your liking, slide it from the stick onto a piece of graham cracker that's been topped with chocolate.
Place a second graham cracker on top of the roasted marshmallow.
Enjoy!
I dare you to eat just one.
