Can You Freeze Brownies After Baking? (Yes, Here’s How)

Updated: Jul 15, 2025 by Jennifer OsbornThis post may contain affiliate links.

Why yes, you can freeze brownies after baking and it’s one of the best life decisions you can make just like freezing lemon bars and freezing cookie dough and already baked cookies.

Whether you’ve got extras from a bake sale or just want to tuck away a secret stash for future snacks, brownies freeze like a dream.

Here's how to do it right so they stay soft, fudgy, and totally irresistible.

How to Freeze Brownies the Right Way

    1. Let brownies cool completely.
    2. Slice into squares or rectangles. Or don’t! You can also freeze a whole pan of brownies unsliced.
    3. Wrap each piece in plastic wrap or wax paper or a plastic sandwich bag.
    4. Place the wrapped brownies in a freezer-safe bag or airtight container.
    5. Label and freeze for up to 3 months.

    How to Thaw Frozen Brownies

Let brownies sit at room temperature for about an hour, or microwave for 20–30 seconds if you’re impatient.

Pro tip: Keep the lid on your container until the brownies thaw to avoid condensation making them soggy.

    Can You Freeze Frosted Brownies?

Yes but freeze them uncovered on a tray for an hour first to firm up the frosting. Then wrap and store as usual.

Will Brownies Taste the Same After Freezing?

Yes but many people say brownies taste even better after chilling out in the freezer for a bit.

Can I Freeze Brownies That Have Already Been Baked?

Yes! Baked brownies freeze beautifully. Let them cool completely, then wrap tightly in plastic wrap and store in a freezer bag or airtight container. You can freeze them whole or in squares. Thaw at room temp or microwave for 15–30 seconds for peak gooeyness.
