Hi, I'm Jennifer. Welcome to Kitchen Serf.
Oh, hey, hello, I'm Jennifer. Let me bake something for you.Well hey there!

    Hi, hello, hola, salut:

I'm Jennifer, a cookie-obsessed mom of a teenage boy, writer and yogi living and baking on the Maine coast.

My mission is to create and test cookie recipes so you have the very best recipes to turn to when you're ready to bake.  My dream is to inspire you to bake cookies on the regular, not just during the holidays. Every child should have homemade cookies for snack time. Every grown up should have homemade cookies.

Put down that package of cookies in the grocery aisle and pick up a spatula to make your own batch instead. Homemade are a million times tastier than commercial ones.

Nothing makes me happier than seeing a box of cookies. Or a tray of cookies. As long as they're homemade. Or a batch of cookie dough in the bowl of my stand mixer.

If I'm being honest, I'm obsessed with all desserts and how they're made. If I sample a treat anywhere, you can bet I'll be cajoling someone about the recipe--even if I'm in a restaurant.

    Why I Bake

I bake cookies to destress from my job as a newspaper reporter. Crime and courts are part of my beat so I'm more often than not reporting on ugliness and angst. Baking helps!

And also, I just really love cookies, always have.

These are some of my favorite cookies:

    Lemon Shortbread Heart cookies

    Give Me a Pen!!!!

The only thing I've ever wanted to do is write. I made this decision at the tender age of 8.
I've been a professional writer now for over 20 years. This might make you think I'm not yet 30. Haha.
Far from it, there were a couple decades of schooling involved. I have a bachelor's degree in
English from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

    Life Stuff

I'm married. I'm a cat mom, a dog mom and a teenage boy mom. We live on the coast of Maine. (Brrr)

    Favorite Flavors

Anything coffee or chocolate. I have a raging espresso addiction, specifically iced Americanos with just a dash of cream and by dash I mean just a jot, less than a half a teaspoon. But, I'm happy with any deep, dark roast.

cup of espresso on a white background with a stack of double chocolate chunk cookies with edges rolled in white sanding sugar
Double Chocolate Chunk Shortbread cookies taste like fudge and have a two-week shelf life-perfect for baking ahead.

    Let's not forget Cocktails

Citrus flavors are way up there too, especially lemon, but also lime and well, grapefruit too. And blood orange. You get the picture.

Grapefruit Vodka Martinis infuse your cocktail hour with freshness: grapefruit juice, lime juice and grapefruit vodka make a bracingly fresh drink packed with Vitamin C

But I also love cinnamon and anything with nuts. But, toffee is good too. And so is marshmallow. But we can't forget about the other fruits, like raspberry.

    Loves

Motherhood, yoga, meditation, cocktails, gardening and British murder mysteries: Midsomer Murders anyone?
Also, the color pink, anything covered in sparkles or sprinkles and lipstick. And nail polish. And mani/pedis.

    What you can expect here

I post a new cookie or dessert most weeks.

On the last day of the month, I recap the best thing I cooked (savory), what I read, watched, loved and listened to.

I Want to Know About You!

    What brought us together?

    How can I help you?

How did you land on Kitchen Serf?

What kind of cookies do you like?

Are you searching for a recipe? Tell me please. Two decades of newspaper reporting and feature writing have given me mad research skills. So give me a chance to hunt down your missing recipe.

Thank you so much for being here!

      Hi Jennifer,
I loved your article on Funeral Desserts and especially the comment: "I see your grief and brought you sugar". You made me smile, but it is oh so true!
      Keep up the good work.
