My week in photos include pictures I took as part of Fat Mum Slim’s photo a day challenge, a really great sandwich I made last weekend with fresh mustard greens and a shot from an upcoming blog post on how to make the best doughnuts of your life.
My goal for 2015 with this website has been to improve my content so all you darlings visit more and stay longer when you do.
To that end, I’ve been focusing on learning graphic design basics and improving my photography skills.
I took a course last winter in social media design and I’m slowly working through tutorials on Canva, which has become my favorite graphic design site.
#FMS Photo a Day Challenge:
And, a month ago I joined a photo a day challenge hosted by Chantelle, an Australian voice behind the Fat Mum Slim blog. I underestimated the value of doing the photo a day challenge. I forgot that taking a photo a day really means taking several photos a day because one is never happy with the first shot one takes, at least this one is not. I’ve really stretched and grown with this challenge and been forced to “think outside the lens.”
Chantelle recruits a graphic designer to create a lovely image to showcase that week’s photo a day prompts.
Sometimes, I groan when I look at the challenges. Sunday’s prompt last week was “Ha Ha Ha.” C’mon. What am I supposed to do with that? I took a photo of a funny scene on television.
“Musical,” May 18’s prompt, was another tough one. I finally decided to shoot Mr. 12 practicing the trumpet but he forgot to bring it home that day. So I shot a photo of our pond, which is alive and loud with peepers (frogs) this time of year.
The green alien looking lollipop was my photo for a “Starts with S” prompt. I was thinking “sucker.” Mr. 12 got it at a gift shop during a class field trip to a Challenger Space Center.
The grassy knoll at at the top of the collage was my solution for the “Many” prompt as in many blades of grass on June 1.
Fat Mum Slim also has an app for your iPhone, called Little Moments, to make participating easier. I recommend the app. The week’s prompts are automatically downloaded for you and you get a reminder about that day’s photo assignment. The app isn’t available for Android yet. You can click the app store link at the bottom of my website if you want more information.
Fat Mum Slim created the Little Moments App to make it easier to participate in her #FMS Photo a Day challenge.
More Photos:
A few of the photos in my collage not part of the #photo a day challenge such as the sandwich, which I made last Saturday with turkey breast and mustard greens on sesame scali bread from my favorite bakery in Southwest Harbor. The mustard greens came from my favorite farm and they were so good, crisp and slightly spicy, I couldn’t stop eating them.
There’s a rare shot of Senor Paco Rabanne who is self-conscious and doesn’t like his photo taken. Paco is asleep in this photo and having a good dream because you can see the faintest outline of a smile on his mouth.
And there’s a preview shot of a partially eaten doughnut, which is part of an upcoming tutorial on how to make the best doughnuts of your life. Bonus, they only require 3 ingredients totaling about $3.
Have you ever participated in a photo a day challenge? Tell me in the comments.
