Is the Allure Beauty Box worth it?
Yes.
I started subscribing in June and I’ve had a great time moisturizing, masking, glossing, mascara-ing and applying nail stickers.

What's in the Allure Subscription Box?
Subscribers usually receive five full size products as well as deluxe samples.
The beauty box is $15 a month unless you subscribe for a year at a time, then your cost is $13.75 a month, not really worth it to do a year at a time in my opinion.
Shipping is included in the $15 cost.
Allure says:
“Each box will include 5 editor-curated products in deluxe size, with a total value of at least $50. Our editors select a mix of luxury and indie brands to include in each box. We sometimes include a bonus product (or two) from a mass brand, as a free value add to you.”
New subscribers get a gift for subscribing. I received a Tarte Amazonian Clay Mascara.
The June 2020 box included:
- TONYMOLY Intense Care Gold 24K Snail Hydro Gel Mask
- Belif The True Cream Aqua Bomb Aloe Vera
- Yensa Super 8 Lip iOil in Pnk Shine
- Dashing Diva Gloss Ultra Shine Gel Palette (nail stickers)
- Context Vitamin C All Day Eye Cream
- Shangpree Gold Black Pearl Eye Mask
Are the Dashing Diva Nail Stickers Any Good?
In all honesty, I didn't love the Dashing Diva nail stickers.
I found them too thick and difficult to work with.
My nail beds are pretty small so I have to trim nail stickers down. But there's always still a little bit that hangs down over the free edge of my nail that I have to wrap around my nail and seal or file off.
I could do neither with the Dashing Diva because they were too thick.
When I tried to file off the excess, the rest of the sticker started to pull off my nail.
The ingredients list polyurethane as the main ingredient, which is probably why they're so thick.
However, the Diva stickers have lasted. I'm on day three of all kinds of gardening and dish washing and typing and they're holding strong.
The nail stickers I usually use and love are made in Boston by Nina Parks, Scratch, who recently signed a deal with Ulta to get her stickers in those shops.
Anyway, Nina's nail stickers, are whisper thin and are really easy to work with and as such have ruined me for any other nail sticker. I'm not an affiliate for Scratch I just really like Nina's work and like supporting small businesses.
Yensa Super 8 Lip Oil in Pink Shine Review
The lip oil was another "meh" product for me. It smells great, like watermelon, and it's super shiny for the first two seconds it's on your lips but then it dries and basically you have your own lips again only slightly moisturized.
I would not buy the Yensa Super 8 Lip Oil on my own.
Which Allure Beauty Products Were Best?
Definitely the Belif The True Cream Aqua Bomb Aloe Vera. It's creamy and moisturizing without being greasy.
I've purchased many Belif skin care products over the years, including cleanser, toner and moisturizers. I would compare them with Philosophy only more value-oriented.
I've currently rotating this Belif cleanser with Philosophy Purity cleanser.
I also really liked the Context Vitamin C All Day Eye Cream. This eye cream I would repurchase. It is a great canvas to have under your eyes to keep foundation from looking dry and caked.

Is Allure Beauty Box good?
Definitely. Despite my lack of enthusiasm about two of the products, the Allure beauty box is good.
Most of the products I received were good quality and useful.
For example, the TonyMoly face mask comes in two pieces, one for the top half of your face and one to fit over the bottom half of your face.
That's so much easier to manage and sit with instead of the one piece face mask, which depending on how long or short your face is, can be challenging to fit.
Pro tip: Most face masks have extra mask liquid in them. If it's a mask where you just peel it off and go about your business, hang onto that liquid and use it as a moisturizer for a day or two. Or slather it all over the rest of your business!
Also, Allure sends you a mini magazine giving you a description of each item in your box, how to use it and what the editors think of it.
Also, if you fall in love with a certain product, you get a discount code to order more.
Why I Subscribed to the Allure Beauty Box
I’m going through beauty product withdrawals because of the pandemic and Sephora being closed.
It’s almost July 13.
My Sephora has been closed since March 13.
That’s four months without browsing and color swatching and sampling and spraying.
Yes, I made a couple online orders but it’s just not the same.
Getting a box full of makeup goodies in the mail for $15 shipped is a major deal. I can’t remember the last time I got out of Sephora for $15. Can you?
One thing that I also like about the Allure box is that it includes new to me brands, which as someone living in rural Maine, I greatly appreciate it.
As far as beauty products go, if it’s not at Sephora or Ulta, chances are I won’t see it.
Plus, Allure's brand is everything so the company is going to do a good job with its beauty boxes.
I've subscribed to the magazine for much of the time. I stopped for a while after founder and longtime editor Linda Wells left in 2015 but I've picked it back up.
Wells did a better job of being inclusive of all ages. Since Wells left, the periodical seems to have a decidedly younger focus, aimed at 20-somethings.
Which is better Allure or Play by Sephora?
Allure is better in my opinion however I don't think Play exists anymore.
I subscribed to Play by Sephora maybe five years ago.
The Sephora Play box $10 a month but only contained deluxe samples and sometimes not even deluxe.
Once in a great while there would be a full size beauty item in the box but it was rare and there lots of repeat products in the box.
Insider tip: according to a beauty forum I was snooping through, if you get a duplicate item in your Allure box, you can call or email and they'll send you a replacement.
Is it easy to cancel the Allure Beauty Box?
Allegedly, all you have to do is email: BeautyBox@Allure.com.

Problems with Allure Beauty Box
The chief complaint I’ve read about with the Allure subscription is a lack of customization. But, it’s like preschool snack time. You get what you get.
Some beauty boxes, such as Ipsy and the now defunct Sephora Play, ask you to fill out a questionnaire about skin type and color, makeup preferences and so on.
Some people who’ve tried the box cancelled because they felt they were getting products not suited for them.
However, if you’ve received items that you’re really not digging, I suggest gifting them to a friend or your daughter. OR, there are swap exchanges online where you can trade.
Subscribe to the Allure Subscription Box.
When will my Allure Beauty Box arrive?
If you’re new, you should get your box within 20 days of signing up.
Existing subscribers will have boxes shipped by the third week of the month.
Which month’s box will I get when I sign up?
According to Allure, whatever month you sign up in will be the month's box you receive. For example, if you sign up between February 1st and February 28, you’ll receive a February box.
At times due to popular demand, your first box may not fall within the same month that you ordered, the company says.
How do I cancel my Allure box subscription? Is it easy to cancel my Allure beauty box?
You can cancel your membership at any time by sending an email to BeautyBox@Allure.com.
Cancel by the last day of the month so you’re not charged for the next month’s box.
