Gobble meal kit delivery boxes arrive via FedEx to our house, packed with frozen gel packs to keep the food cold. You will want to unpack it immediately and get proteins in the freezer and the fresh vegetables in the crisper and any other items that will need to be kept cool, such as mashed potatoes or quinoa or precooked rice stored in the fridge.
Is Gobble worth it?
Overall, I would say yes. We liked the meal kit delivery service but with some caveats.
The best part of Gobble is the convenience for sure. Having meals delivered to my porch via FedEx is quite a luxury.
It also, as a mom, felt luxurious for three nights in a row to turn off the part of my brain that had to figure out what was for dinner. I already knew because it all waiting in my fridge, complete with recipe card.
Our meals were delivered the day they said they would and they tasted okay.
Gobble meals do make feeding yourself and your people easier but there is work on your end.
You get basically meal kits delivered: a protein, vegetables and grains and sauces.
If you’re someone who has trouble with portion control, getting Gobble Meal Kits delivered may help you avoid overeating.
Gobble promises to make meal cooking easy for busy families.
The vegetables will need to be chopped and the protein cooked in an oven or a skillet.
The grains usually are such that you pour them in a bowl and microwave them for a minute or two, easy peasy.
But all in all, between chopping and cooking and warming, you’re spending 15 minutes of active time.
Gobble Meal Kit Delivery Tips:
There are a lot of fresh ingredients involved so if you try this delivery service, you’re going to want to schedule it for a week when you can devote 15 minutes worth of time and energy to cooking dinner three nights in a row.
If you have dinners out or engagements planned, choose another week. These meals really need to be eaten with a few days of arriving.
Try these meals on a week when you’re not running in 50 different directions.

Gobble Menu Sizes
Gobble is designed to feed two people or four people.
If you choose two people, you receive six meal kits, which means you’ll receive three meals that will each feed two people.
Or, you can choose four people, which means you’ll receive 12 meal kits, three meals that will each feed four people.
Gobble says its minimum order is two dinner kits, equaling four meals.
If you do only order four meals, the price per meal is $13.99 ($55.96 plus $6.99 shipping).
How Do Gobble Meals Taste?
Eh, I wasn’t blown over by the meals but I wasn’t horrified either.
I would say Gobble meals are a couple flavor rungs above a good frozen dinner.
Our favorite was the artichoke pesto crusted salmon, which was served with lentils and sauteed squash and grape tomatoes.
That leads me to another issue I have with Gobble and depending how you are about your fish, it might be an issue for you too.
Gobble serves farm-raised fish. As a general rule I only buy wild fish.
I’ve got a Spicy Shrimp Nacho recipe that uses wild fish.
And my personal favorite, spicy fish sandwiches, which means dinner is on the table in ten minutes.
Take that Gobble!
Wild fish tastes exponentially better than farm raised, in my opinion, and it’s healthier for my family.
Because of the farm-raised fish, I probably won’t order Gobble again.
But, If I do, I’ll know to stick with beef or chicken or lamb.
How Much Does Gobble Cost?
Right now there’s a deal for six meals for $36 plus free shipping.
You can cancel your subscription anytime.
Otherwise, Gobble is about $12 a meal.
How Much Is Gobble Weekly?
I was charged $83 for six meals–two servings of three dinners.
What’s the Deadline To Skip a Delivery or Cancel My Subscription?
Gobble says the deadline to skip or modify deliveries is Wednesday at 11:59 p.m.
This is true. I thought that because I hadn’t specified what meals I wanted in my next delivery that my subscription would be on hold until I did. Not so. I was charged on Thursday for the upcoming week.
I did find this a bit annoying because I really did want to try the meals before I committed to getting another week of them.
Also I was confused because I hadn’t told them what meals we wanted for the second delivery. It turns out if you don’t choose, they choose for you, kind of like your mom.
How Long Are Gobble Meals Good For?
Gobble says the meals are good for five days if kept in the fridge.
I would say these meals are best eaten in three days or less.
Gobble meal kits arrive with a fair amount of fresh produce–greens, including lettuce and spinach, depending on the dish, as well as possibly tomato and avocado.
If you get a delivery and suddenly you need to head out of town and can’t eat all the meals, give them to a neighbor or make a salad out of the fresh ingredients and put the rest of the items–the protein, sauces and any side dishes in the freezer.
Are Gobble Meals Fresh?
Nearly everything delivered was fresh.
We did have a problem with the shrimp meal, which was pretty much ruined but I saved the components that I could and we ate them on their own.
The spice packet was left out and a sauce had gone bad.
In fairness, the sauce bag arrived punctured so I put it in another Ziplock and stored it in the fridge but 48 hours later, the sauce smelled foul so I tossed it.
Gobble Refund
When I emailed Gobble about the problems, someone named Kelly apologized for the “disappointing experience” and said she would credit my bank card with $15.
I really wasn’t expecting any refund so that was a pleasant surprise.
LIFE LESSON: If you are someone who would rather not complain about things that aren’t quite right, I would say there’s a lesson here to mention your problem because you just never know what the company/person/organization might do in response.
I didn’t mention to Gobble that with that same dish, the lettuce arrived with a pretty decent sized bad spot and I ended up having to toss it.
That I didn’t mention to Gobble because it’s very difficult for lettuce to travel.
I know this from my Misfits Market produce subscription box.
If lettuce arrives in a Misfit box, your choice is either eat it immediately or toss it. It’s always in rough shape.
Back to Gobble, there was an avocado to be sliced and arranged over the shrimp dish and the avocado arrived with a bad spot.
I put the avo in the fridge immediately but I had to throw about a quarter of the avocado away because the flesh where the soft spot was had gotten dark.
An avocado for one of the meals arrived with a bad spot but I just cut around that part and the rest was fine.
Gobble Meals
These are the meals we had delivered over two weeks:
- Tuscan Sirloin Steak with Mushrooms & Fettuccine in Three Peppercorn Sauce
- Artichoke Pesto Crusted Salmon with Lentils & Squash Provençal
- Baja Shrimp Bowl with Black Beans & Quinoa
- Chicken au Poivre with Demi-Glace & Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes
- Sumac-Seasoned Sirloin Steak with Quinoa Tabbouleh Salad & Haricot Verts
- Thai Pineapple Red Curry with Shrimp & Jasmine Rice
Our favorite dish was the Thai Pineapple Red Curry with Shrimp and Jasmine Rice. The vegetables were perfect, the sauce was good. You have a choice of chopping a serrano pepper to saute or leaving it out. I chopped half the serrano and probably could have included the entire pepper. It wasn’t that spicy.
Also, this makes me realize I should tell you that the Gobble portion sizes are pretty substantial. The protein portions are spare but they give you plenty of vegetables and grains so you walk away from the table full.
I didn’t want 12 meals to deal with so I ordered the two dinner size, which is six meals.
The three of us were stuffed after eating the Thai shrimp dish for two and there was a still a half cup of vegetable and shrimp left.
We Didn’t Love All the Meal Kits Delivered
I really wanted to love the Tuscan Sirloin Steak with Mushrooms & Fettuccine in Three Peppercorn Sauce because the photo looked like something I would enjoy ordering in a restaurant and it’s topped with a rosemary thyme compound butter.
I adore compound butters.
Tuscan Sirloin Steak with Mushrooms & Fettuccine in Three Peppercorn Sauce was one of the Gobble meal kits we had delivered. This was not one of our favorites. The steak wasn’t that flavorful and husband said the dish reminded him of beef stroganoff but not in a good way.
But, the steak was just okay flavor-wise.
Husband said it reminded him of beef stroganoff.
The teenager, who adores steak and mushrooms, was also not terribly enthused.
Teenager said he didn’t think the steak was that flavorful.
Again, to be fair, I usually marinade steak. The Gobble recipe just called for the steak to be seasoned with salt and pepper, seared on a hot pan and then finished in an oven.
What Equipment Do I Need to Cook Gobble Meals?
- Oven
- Stovetop
- Microwave
- Refrigerator/freezer (for storing until cooking)
- Saute pan that can go in the oven (like a cast-iron skillet)
- Dutch oven or pot for boiling pasta
You should be aware that you’ll need access to an oven, a stove top and a microwave to cook Gobble meals. You’ll also need an oven safe skillet. If you don’t have one, you could probably transfer proteins that need to finish cooking in the oven to a cookie sheet or a small roasting pan.
You definitely need an oven and a stove top. Both proteins were supposed to be finished in the oven.
Everything needed to be sauteed, except of course, the pasta, which was boiled.
Two of the dishes had grains that needed to be cooked in a microwave for a couple of minutes.
However, I think most of the grains delivered you could warm up in a skillet if you are on of those people that don’t like to have microwaves in the house.
Who Is Gobble Good For?
- Well, as previously mentioned, busy families.
- But, if you are a new cook and overwhelmed with learning how to make good food, Gobble would help you learn.
- Do you have teenagers who you want to teach how to cook? Gobble might be a good guide.
- If you’re in the middle of a global crisis and you’re afraid to go to the grocery store, a meal kit delivery service might be useful for you.
- Are you trying to control your portion sizes? A meal delivery kit service might be something to try because the portions are limited.
- Are you counting calories? Gobble meals list the calories for each serving on the recipe card, if made as instructed.
Each meal comes with a recipe card that shows you what the finished dish should look like, a list of equipment you’ll need and step by step instructions to cook the meal.
Who Shouldn’t Have Gobble Meal Kits Delivered?
Gobble is probably not the best choice for people who live alone due to the two person/four dinner minimum order.
Gobble would be doable for single people if the meals went directly into the freezer but there’s a lot of fresh vegetables involved and as I said previously, these meals are substantial.
You could, if you’re single, just plan to take leftovers for lunch the next day. But, if you’re not crazy about a meal, do you want to also finish it for lunch? Probably not.
Gobble is not a good choice for you if you just want to reheat meals and eat.
There was cooking, although minimal, with every meal that we tried.
There are other meal kit delivery services where everything is already done for you and you’re just reheating.
Is Gobble Organic?
No, there are no organic ingredients that I could find.
Gobble Diet Restrictions?
You can choose vegan meals.
“Lean and Clean” meals that are touted as under 600 calories a serving are another option.
