Hi friend,
I hope this missive finds you well.
Have your leaves begun turning gorgeous, rich fall hues yet? We are having a few weeks of weirdness in Maine. Usually by now, Sept. 30, our leaves are wearing their fall best but not yet this year. Meteorologists have been talking about the lack of color but no one’s come up with any conclusive reason. I’m thinking it’s because we are quite dry and pretty warm still. We’ve not yet had a hard frost.
Despite all this, I am still finding all the best stuff about fall for you this week.
First up, food:
Fall is all about squash, right? My most favorite squash is butternut, even better if it’s butternut squash ravioli or some sort of pasta dish. I’d like to create a butternut squash lasagna. In the meantime, there’s this list of ten vegetarian recipes using butternut squash.
I bought a slew of Honeycrisp apples at an orchard this weekend. Here are dessert ideas if you get tired of eating fresh fall apples out of hand. As if!
I’m also preparing my lists of holiday treats to try and this recipe, which uses Maker’s Mark bourbon, may make the list.
Beautifall:
Fall beauty trends, I would try #15 at least, what about you?
Have you seen nude sunglasses yet? I thought they might be too stylish for me to pull off (I mean put on, actually, ha ha) until I read this.
If you own any Essie nail polish or have ever gotten a manicure, you need to read this.
And here’s a bit of what Essie is doing for fall.
Life Stuff:
Do you know the 10 Things Organized People Do Before Noon? I do many of them but not consistently.
Here’s an entertaining podcast for you to listen to while you’re cooking.
Tech:
You should see the 20 most interesting ios apps, which debuted at the TechCrunch conference in September. A lot of these apps are for residents of uber urban areas. Uber as in super, not as in the car service. But, I’ve signed up to be notified when this food-related app is out of beta. Supposedly the app, named Foodfully, keeps track of what’s in your fridge and helps you use up leftovers, thus saving you money. We shall see.
Just Plain Cool:
I really get excited when I see a blogger doing something fresh. You’ve got check out this. And if you don’t watch Scandal, surf around, she does other shows too.
What about you? What are your best fall things?
P.s. Can you believe it’s nearly October and I haven’t bought or eaten a bag of Brach’s Candy Corn yet? I know, this is highly unusual behavior for me.
XO,
Jennifer
