How to gussy up your cocktails: This can be as simple as choosing the right ice cube for the drink. Read on.
Hello padre or madre, and welcome to my early pre-summer post on how to gussy up your cocktails. Can you tell I’m getting excited about warmer weather? How about you?
I was at my local kitchen supply store looking for objects to make all of our kitchen lives easier when I stumbled upon some magnificent ice-cube trays in a dizzying array of shapes and sizes, including itsy, bitsy skinny ones for making ice for your water bottles.
I’d been meaning to get some large square or ball ice cube molds to use for mixed drinks. The larger the cube the better, according to mixologists, because your drink doesn’t get diluted as quickly. This article in the Wall Street Journal lays out ice cube intricacies quite nicely as well as this one…
Other tips: used distilled water or filtered water. If you boil the water before freezing it, supposedly your ice cubes will be really clear.
If you don’t use the ice within a few days, throw it out because it will begin to absorb odors from your freezer.
This is my favorite cocktail, that is when I’m not having a margarita or a dark n’ stormy. What’s your favorite cocktail? What kind of ice cubes do you like? What kind of ice cube trays do you own? Leave a comment.
