Lip envy, I’ve suffered through it for a long time. When I was younger, I longed to have full, pouty lips a la Eva Mendez or Angelina Jolie.
But, God blessed me with narrow, little bird lips. The better to purse at my teenager when he misbehaves.
I’ve learned to make the best of what I have by keeping my lips moisturized and most often, clad in a light pink color. Lighter colors make objects look bigger, which is why you might cringe when you see your backside clad in a pair of white jeans. But, that’s also why I like coloring my lips with a neutral color or a lighter pink shade.
Fun fact, when I was in college one of my coworkers asked me how I drew my cupid’s bow so perfectly every day. I didn’t know what she was talking about and then I realized she didn’t know that’s how my lip line was actually shaped. I would show you but I haven’t used depilatory in a couple of weeks and my cupid’s bow is difficult to see through my mustache. Kidding.
My 5 favorite lip products:
1. Korres Lip Butter in Jasmine
I can’t say enough good things about Korres Lip Butter in Jasmine. This lip butter moisturizes my lips like nothing else and coats them in a neutral pink hue.
The lip butter also lasts longer than most moisturizing lip products. You can find this at Sephora for $12. At first I thought I was nuts for spending $12 on a tiny pot of lip butter but it works so well and I use up every last bit of butter in every pot I buy. I’ve been wearing this for about 7 or 8 years now I think.
There are other colors/flavors besides jasmine:
- guava ( clear)
- pomegranate (sheer coral)
- wild rose (sheer, deep red)
I also have the pomegranate and it’s a bit orange for me and I don’t consider it sheer.
2. Buxom White Russian
Described as a “Full-On Lip Cream,” this is a nude pink gloss that tingles slightly when you put it on. I really love this stuff and it has something around 100,000 likes on sephora.com.
3. Plain old Vaseline
I keep a little tiny tub of Vaseline on my nightstand to coat my lips when I lay down at night. It makes a big difference in keeping my lips moisturized.
4. Bite Lip Masks
These are newish to me but I really like them. They’re thick and super moisturizing. I keep getting little samples from Sephora to try. They last forever.
5. Makeup Forever Plexi Gloss in #202
This is a translucent pink lip gloss that immediately makes your lips look larger. If you haven’t traditionally liked wearing glosses, I would encourage you to visit a Sephora and try a sample of the Makeup Forever Plexi Gloss. It doesn’t have a weird flavor. The gloss is long lasting but not sticky.
Your turn: what’s your beauty complaint and how do you deal with it? Have you tried any of my lip favorites?
