Welcome to Day 14: Chop Them Yourself of my 31 days series Crush Your Food Costs.
Do you chop your own vegetables? I certainly hope so. You can save a lot of money by doing the work yourself.
Sure, this package of carrots can make dinner preparation a couple minutes faster but you’re paying a whole lot more for the convenience. “Is it worth it?” is a question you have to ask yourself.
This package of carrots was $3.99 for a pound. I found 1-pound bags of baby carrots 2 for $3. But that’s a baby carrot price. On a good sale, I’ve gotten 3 pounds of bunched carrots for $1.79 before.
The same with red peppers.
These prepared, sliced red peppers are $6.39 a pound. Usually when I buy them whole, they are $3.49 to $3.99 a pound. Today, however, they were $1.99 a pound.
I find carrot preparation laborious but red peppers take just a minute to slice.
Do you buy vegetables already prepared for you or whole?
