Welcome! You’ve landed on a post for my 31 day series Crush Your Food Costs. This is Day 13: Buy the Good Bread.
When you’re in the midst of trying to save money on food, it may seem counter intuitive to buy the good bread or the good cheese or the good chocolate or whatever high-quality item you’d enjoy splurging on. But, treating yourself, within reason, can help you stick with your resolution to crush your food costs.
If we have good bread in the house, I’m much more likely to be game about having a simple sandwich for lunch or soup for dinner. Plus, artisanal bread, packed with grains and possibly nuts and seeds, tends to be more filling than a cheap slice of store-brand white or whole wheat.
Think about a diet, when you starve yourself, you eventually break down and eat a giant piece of cheesecake with a pint of ice cream on top, right? It’s the same concept with trying to pare down your grocery bill to the bone.
What do you like to splurge on at the grocery store?
