When my Oct./Nov. 2013 issue of Fine Cooking arrived, around the last week of August, I wasn’t ready to read it, with it’s luscious fall cover featuring a Bourbon-Caramel Pumpkin Tart. Now that we’re closing in on October, I cracked it open today. I love Fine Cooking so much. It’s such a great magazine so it’s tough to pick out features I think qualify as The Best of Fine Cooking Oct./Nov. 2013 but here goes.
Mad About Mashes: can’t wait to try carrot mash with orange and mint
A Chinese Market Tour: stir fried beef with mixed vegetables
Create Your own recipe: this month is quick breads. I’m anxious to try the lemon lavender. I’ve been buying lemon lavender miniature scones at my natural food store for a couple of months. They are so, so good.
It’s the Great Pumpkin Challenge: Bourbon Caramel Pumpkin Tart from a Portland, Maine chef! Tara Smith, head pastry chef at The Standard Baking Co., created the tart. I have the bakery’s book, Pastries, which I would recommend to anyone looking to recreate bakery style pastries at home.
