My 3 Most Useful Kitchen Appliances
Let’s talk usefulness, shall we? None of us has extra time to prepare meals and desserts. I rely on several appliances to keep us all fed in the manner to which we’ve become accustomed. So I thought it might be helpful to share my top 3 most useful kitchen appliances.
I also want to know what you consider your most useful appliances. Leave a comment. Or send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org
So, I dragged my heels on this. I used a handheld mixer for years. But, Mr. 48 gave me a stand mixer for Christmas last year. He decided a stand mixer would result in me baking more cookies and he was right. I’ve been making One Cookies and Chewy Toffee Cookies. And I plan to start the holiday baking season in September with Gingersnaps Amped.
This little machine, my model is several years old now, lasts forever. I think I bought mine when Mr. 13 was five? I use the food processor to make pie crusts, pesto, salsa and sometimes salad dressing. Most importantly, I couldn’t make my most favorite dessert, Whole Lemon Bars, without it.
This was another gift, not from the hubs but from a friend. I had gotten a heart-shaped waffle iron as a wedding present and somehow misplaced it moving cross-country or cross-town. I was shopping for one and surfing the local swap and sell sites on Facebook for a waffle iron when my friend mentioned she had one packed away in storage that I could have. She is single and her only child has grown up and moved away so she doesn’t make a lot of breakfast.
My waffle iron is larger than the one shown. Mine makes four square Belgian waffles. I also have a spare set of plates that I could put in if I wanted to use the iron to make hot sandwiches. But I do that in the toaster oven or in my cast iron skillet so I’ve tucked the spare plates away.
Since getting this waffle iron earlier this year, we’ve saved a lot of money on prepared breakfast foods. Once in while Mr. 13 asks for a donut but most days, he eats eggs or two waffles. It’s been so long since I’d had my hands on a waffle iron, I’d forgotten how incredibly delicious homemade waffles are–especially the thick Belgian style. They are really filling too.
