I’m one of those cooks who thinks everything tastes better with garlic. However, peeling each clove by hand can take forever and I’ve ruined more than one manicure that way. So, here are 2 easy tips for peeling garlic I’ve found.
1. Watch this 20 second Martha Stewart video. Martha unpeels a whole head of garlic simply by shaking them really hard between two of the same-sized bowls. Martha used stainless steel bowls. You’ll want sturdy bowls-not paper bowls or plastic.
2. Put a few cloves of garlic on plate and microwave for 10 to 15 seconds. When you pull them out, rub each clove between your fingers and the peel will fall right off. This method worked pretty well for me. You’ll have to experiment with the time depending on how powerful your microwave is. So start in five second increments. If you microwave the garlic cloves for too long, as I did during my first attempt, the cloves will steam and get soft and be impossible to chop or mince for recipes.
